OPEN Friday, May 23, 9AM - 5PM

We've suddenly transformed from a strawberry farm to a flower farm for Memorial Day Weekend! We've got thousands of pick your own bright sunflowers, colorful zinnias and other flowers to make a magical bouquet for your Memorial Day centerpiece. Bring the kids for a fun, unique experience of pick your own fresh flowers.

Cut flower Memorial Day SALE: 2 for $20
One 10 stem sunflower bouquet
One bouquet from our Bouquet Garden

This will be the last weekend that the greenhouse will be open; we're getting closer to selling out of bedding plant inventory. Everything in the greenhouse is on sale $2 each, regardless of container size.

In addition to our cut flowers, the yellow squash, zucchini, red, white, and yellow sweet onions are plentiful. The strawberries are not plentiful. We do not advise you to visit our farm this weekend if your only goal is to pick strawberries. Strawberry picking conditions are not ideal.

📸 Shout out to Girls on the Run Hampton Roads who visited today. Beautiful bouquets! 😊

Open Thursday & Friday, May 22nd & 23rd: 9AM - 5PM!

It's a great time to come to our farm for zucchini, yellow squash, onions, and cut flowers to create your own bouquet! Despite the rain today, Browder's Bouquet Garden is not muddy, and it's an awesome time to create a beautiful arrangement!

Our onions are sizing up nicely. We have three varieties - red, white, and sweet yellow. If you look at the base, you can tell the color of the onion (white pictured here).

The super sale in the greenhouse will continue, while supplies last. All plants just $2, regardless of container size. Mostly annual flowers, some perennials, and some vegetables/herbs.

Heads up, the strawberries are not plentiful. The picking experience is wildly better if you're picking anything other than strawberries. There are some ripe berries, but between the time of year and all the rain we got today, it's nothing like the strawberry picking experience of late April. If you choose to pick berries, it will take longer to fill your basket.

Closed Wednesday, May 21, 2025

Due to the forecasted thunderstorms, our farm will be closed Wednesday, May 21st.

Monday, May 19, 2025

OPEN Tuesday, May 20, 9AM - 5PM

The groundhog was disappointed that we had harvested all the lettuce. 🤣

Tuesday - SALE on yellow squash & zucchini: 3 for $1!
It was so great to see so many of you at Browder's Bouquet Garden today! From sisters to babies and boyfriends and husbands - it was cool to see so many people getting flowers to share with someone they love. What great joy to get creative and have fun dabbling in the bouquet garden! 😊

Heads up, Tuesday's weather is looking better than Wednesday's. We'll post Tuesday evening about Wednesday's hours. The strawberries continue to be in a lull of production, and are not super plentiful at this time. It's not an ideal time for strawberries, however it is an awesome time for flowers! In addition, everything in the greenhouse is $2, regardless of pot size.

OPEN Monday, May 19, 9AM - 5PM!

Browder's Bouquet Garden is now open! We invite you to come pick your own flowers to create smiles for your friends and family at your home and work. The concept is simple, just pick as many flowers as you can hold in one hand for $13. We provide the clippers. We'll also provide a cup of water when you check out to transport your flowers home.

Our journey with cut flowers started in the early 2000's when Jake and I took a Floral Design class at Virginia Tech. In 2012, we grew flowers and created bouquets to sell at the Smithfield Farmer's Market. We had never tried a pick-your-own bouquet garden, so we're excited to welcome you to our farm to enjoy the experience. Come along this journey with us as we try out new things and learn a lot through trial and error together. 😊

You'll notice Browder's Bouquet Garden is the first thing on your left as you arrive, inside its own deer fence (where the overflow parking has been for the past several years). Clippers are located on a table, near the entrance of the flower garden. The vast majority of the garden is zinnias but you'll see several other species sprinkled in as well. As you can see in the photos, the eucalyptus, gladiolus, and celosia aren't quite ready to harvest yet, but there are plenty of others that are ready. The photos indicate where to cut the stem. The flowers have a better chance of staying fresh longer if you follow a few tips: 1. Harvest in the morning when the flowers are the most hydrated. 2. Strip leaves off the stem so that there are none below the waterline. 3. Ensure your vase at home is clean. 4. Change the water frequently.

Update on pick-your-own produce: Strawberry production fluctuates throughout the season in large part due to the weather. The strawberries continue to be in a lull. Even after a day of rest, the berries aren't currently plentiful, and if you choose to pick berries, it will definitely take longer to fill your basket. We will not have any pre-picked berries available. It's tough to say how long the lull will be. For the past several years, the strawberries have been in production through the first or second week of June, so we'll continue to update here on how the production is coming along in the next couple of weeks. Although the strawberries may be starting to wind down, we're transitioning into other produce. There are lots of u-pick yellow squash, zucchini, onions and sunflowers. Lastly, huge sale in the greenhouse - ALL bedding plants are $2 each, regardless of container size. (4-packs, 4-inch pots (annuals), square pots (perennials).
