The View from the Seat of the Tractor

This is the view from the seat of the tractor. At first it might seem like the easiest job of the 4, but it requires sustained concentration. Of course, the most important job is to drive in a straight line. The drip irrigation line runs right down the middle of the row. If the tractor drifts a few inches one way or another during planting, then all season long, one side of the row gets too much water and nutrients and the other doesn’t get enough. It’s also important to have the height of the water wheel just right. Too high and it makes it tough for the people planting to reach the soil. Too low and it drags the ground, damaging the row. If all goes well, within the next 6 months, each plant will produce a quart of strawberries. Starting with strong, healthy transplants is key!
