Our strawberry patch will be OPEN on Monday, Memorial Day from 8AM - 3PM.  This evening we picked the berries pictured below and enjoyed making this together in honor of Memorial Day.  As you can see, there are still ripe berries in the patch, but the rain from the last couple of days has decreased the quality of the picking experience.  We will be open for folks who want to spend family time at the patch and/or would really like some local berries for their Memorial Day outings, but picking will take longer than it did in the peak of the season.

Our u-pick strawberry patch in Smithfield will be OPEN on Saturday, 8AM - 6PM.  There are quite a few ripe berries in the patch, but it'll still take longer to pick a basket than it did earlier in the season.  Tip: open up the canopy of the plant to find berries that may be hidden inside instead of ones just on the edges.  The berries have been picked more extensively in some areas than in others, so if you're in a part that doesn't have many berries, try another area - explore the whole patch 😊

Browder's Fresh Pickins will be OPEN on Friday 7AM - 2PM. Beat the heat and come out early. 😊 We picked these berries this evening. They taste awesome! It does take longer to fill your basket this time of year compared to a few weeks ago, but the ripe berries are definitely out there. As for hours that we'll be open Sat/Sun/Mon, we're keeping a close eye on the weather as well as picking conditions. As soon as we know when the next time we'll be open, we'll post it here.

After a day of rest, our u-pick strawberry patch has bounced back. We'll be open Monday, May 24th, 8AM - 6PM. Although it was hot today, the weather will be perfect for picking on Monday! The heat has made the flavor really good. The majority of the ripe berries are in the front patch as well as the center/right of the back patch. The ends of the rows always have more than the beginning.

Plant SALE: Buy 2 baskets of strawberries, get a plant FREE. The plant can be a 4-pack or 4 inch. A few of the types of plants we have in the greenhouse are geranium, begonia, herbs, peppers, Swedish ivy, and more 😊

Come have some fun in the sun at our pick-your-own strawberry patch in Smithfield.  We'll be open Thursday, May 20th from 8AM - 6PM.  Each night we walk all over the patch to check on the plants and evaluate the picking conditions for the following day.  The picking forecast report for Thursday: The front patch (Chandler variety) has much more ripe than the back patch.  However, since most folks have stayed away from the back patch for several days, it's starting to bounce back a bit.  You'll find some luck in the Ruby Junes towards the ends of the rows, especially on the center to right half of the patch.

 Huge thanks to everyone who came out this weekend to pick berries! The patch is currently picked out, so we'll be closed tomorrow (Monday, May 17th) to allow more berries to ripen. We'll walk the patch tomorrow afternoon and determine the next day/hours we'll be open. It will likely be Tuesday, but we'll post for sure tomorrow, as soon as we evaluate the picking conditions. OPEN Sunday, May 16th, 9AM - 5PM

It's the perfect day to come pick some strawberries!  We're open Sunday, May 16th until 5PM.  I picked some this morning for breakfast and had some extras, so I froze them for later.  Here's how we freeze strawberries: 

ProTip: Use a small measuring spoon to cap the berries - wastes almost no strawberry and even your littlest kitchen helpers can safely participate 😊. Shout out to Cousin Babs for teaching me that 🥰 

I just put it on a single layer of parchment paper and put in the freezer.  Tomorrow morning, I'll take them out and put them into a ziplock bag.  They'll keep for 6-12 months in the freezer, but we always eat ours up way quicker than that.  They're perfect for strawberry smoothies - our favorite yummy treat on a hot summer day 🍓🍓

PS - I picked these berries in the back patch, right side (Ruby Junes).  The ends of the rows have LOADS of berries on them 🙂

Picking Tip: Now that all the varieties are ripe, you're welcome to pick anywhere in the patch. However, some areas are MUCH easier to pick in than others. For a better picking experience, don't start picking at the beginning of the rows, walk at least half way down before you start. Currently, the majority of the ripe berries are in the back patch on the right hand side (Ruby Junes). There are also lots ripe in the back quadrant of the front patch (Chandlers). There are also some Sweet Charlies ripe as well, back patch, left side.
