The warm sun today has really ripened up the berries wonderfully! The pickin' is extremely easy. The berries practically jump into your basket! In previous years, we'd have to be closed after a busy weekend to allow more to ripen. But, this year we nearly doubled our number of strawberry plants, which means the ripe berries are still plentiful. Huge thanks for everyone who continues to support our small family farm! Word of mouth is how we get the majority of our customers, and we are so appreciative of everyone who shares their experience with their friends & family!

Our pick-your-own lettuce & strawberries make an excellent strawberry salad! Pair it with this homemade strawberry salad dressing for a fresh salad that tastes like spring!

Salad Dressing: Puree 1 cup strawberries with a pinch of salt, 1 tsp. Dijon mustard and 2 Tbsp. red wine vinegar. Whisk in 2 Tbsp. olive oil; season with freshly ground pepper.

There are PLENTY of strawberries to pick! They're ripe & deliciously sweet! Very easy pickins!

Today, we hid 3 Easter eggs, each with a coupon for a FREE basket of u-pick berries. Two of them were found today, one remains. Sunday morning, we'll re-hide the 2 that were found so there will be 3 in the patch to find. *Hint* They'll be in the back half of the patch 😊

📸 You may have noticed the small white & purple flowers in the strawberry patch. In October, we planted 38,000 strawberry plants (almost twice as many as last year). Not all of them made it through the winter, so in those spots, we planted Alyssum, which attracts good insects that eat bad insects in our strawberry patch. If you'd like some Alyssum in for your garden, we have a couple flats in our larger greenhouse. 🌸

Our lettuce is ready for harvesting! All 5 varieties are crisp and fantastic! If you're curious about the names of the different varieties, the easiest to identify is the red leaf lettuce, called Red Sails. The other 4 are green leaf lettuces. Simpson Elite has very tender leaves and is lime green. The one with frilly edges is called Great Lakes. It takes a keen eye to spot the difference between the Buttercrunch and the Romaine, but the Buttercrunch is a bit more wavy/curly and the Romaine tends to be more erect. Simply cut the whole head off at the base. Scissors provided, $2/head 🥬

If you've already made strawberry jam, here's another idea...make Simple Strawberry Syrup - it's easy! This is great to add to desserts such as cakes, cupcakes and frosting. It's also delicious on top of ice cream and brownie Sundaes!

3 cups diced strawberries

1 cup water

1 cup sugar (white or ½ white and ½ brown)

1 tsp vanilla

Splash of lemon juice (to help preserve color)

Add all ingredients to sauce pan and cook on medium heat for 25 minutes or longer until desired consistency.

If cooked for 25 minutes, it makes a great syrup to add to lemonade or on top of strawberry shortcake. Cook it longer to thicken if you want to add it to cakes and frostings.
