October is such a festive month for us here at the farm! In addition to all the pumpkin and fall fun, it's also when we plant our strawberries for next year's crop. They'll grow an extensive root system over the winter and will be producing delicious berries beginning in April. Over the past few weekends, we've successfully planted 60,000 strawberry plants, which include 8 different varieties (of which, 5 of them we've never grown before). We've expanded our strawberry patch to 4 acres - our most acreage ever! The rain that the nor'easter brought in was wonderful to water in the tender plants. We've been irrigating around the clock, but there's nothing like a good rain for the berry plants in this stage. In order to allow for crop rotation, we're shifting our strawberry production to the new back field, beyond where the pumpkins are currently growing. For your convenience, we'll also be shifting our parking to that area as well. Next year's strawberries are off to a great start! 🍓
